Fox Business Network commentators Neil Cavuto and Charles Payne think that a salary of $250,000 a year qualifies one to be solidly middle class but not really rich. They claim that at $250 K, " they have the same fears as someone making 50, a household making 50 grand, they really do - particularly if they live in a place like New York or Los Angeles." Actually Neil and Charles, there's a big, big difference between $250 K and the median income of $50 K; you guys should try living on $50 K, and see whether an extra $200 K wouldn't make you a lot more comfortable.
The poet William Stafford set himself the task of writing a poem a day. When someone asked him what he would do when his poem-of-the-day wasn't very good, he replied "I simply lower my standards." In order to increase output, the bar here is set at a low level - the point of this is to have some fun with current events and politics. I welcome contributions and comments. Now you can also follow Doggerelo on Twitter (@doggerelo). Because of continuing medical problems, I'm no longer able to post a poem-a-day. I'll continue to post poems, but at a reduced frequency, so please stay tuned.

At Fox they think you are just middle class
If the salary you earn's only two-fifty K
'Though you're doing all right, lots of bills you amass;
You're not really rich, they're trying to say.
It's far better than most, you must admit.
It's five times the median; that's quite a bit.
So if for your taxes you pay a bit more,
