The poet William Stafford set himself the task of writing a poem a day. When someone asked him what he would do when his poem-of-the-day wasn't very good, he replied "I simply lower my standards." In order to increase output, the bar here is set at a low level - the point of this is to have some fun with current events and politics. I welcome contributions and comments. Now you can also follow Doggerelo on Twitter (@doggerelo). Because of continuing medical problems, I'm no longer able to post a poem-a-day. I'll continue to post poems, but at a reduced frequency, so please stay tuned.

The Adelson ATM

Sheldon Adelson, one of the world's 15th richest individuals, who has already given $36 million to the likes of Newt Gingrich's Super Pac, Mitt Romney and his Super Pac and Karl Rove's American Crossroads is now reported to be giving another $10 million to the Koch brothers, who already have plenty of money to spend trying to defeat Barack Obama.  I guess they could always use some more. In another recent story, Adelson has been accused by a former employee with personally approving prostitution in his casino resorts in Macau.  I am shocked...shocked, that such unsavory activities could be going on in gambling establishments. Nevertheless, it's interesting to note where some of the money is coming from that supports the non-drinking, non-smoking, non-cursing family values candidate, Mitt Romney.

Sheldon Adelson's really rich
From Newt to Romney he has switched
And now he's giving even more
To brothers Koch, with cash galore.
It all adds up to $50 mil -
It's enough to make you ill.

What is all the money for?
Well, he's just trying to make sure
That if things go as he's directed
Obama won't be re-elected
And what left Sheldon much delighted?
The case of Citizens United.

So where did Sheldon get his money?
Well, that's a tale that's kind of funny,
'Cause family values aren't his thing.
His money comes from gamble-ing;
And in his places in Macau
they say it's hookers he'll allow.
