The poet William Stafford set himself the task of writing a poem a day. When someone asked him what he would do when his poem-of-the-day wasn't very good, he replied "I simply lower my standards." In order to increase output, the bar here is set at a low level - the point of this is to have some fun with current events and politics. I welcome contributions and comments. Now you can also follow Doggerelo on Twitter (@doggerelo). Because of continuing medical problems, I'm no longer able to post a poem-a-day. I'll continue to post poems, but at a reduced frequency, so please stay tuned.

Missile Fizzles

North Korea, despite Western pressure to cancel the event,  launched a rocket intended to put a satellite into orbit, but the rocket broke into pieces several minutes after lift-off.

North Korea’s guided missile -
Launching it made nations bristle
But now it merits our dismissal
Its launch turned out to be a fizzle.

It is estimated that over 80% of a starving North Korean population could have bought one year's worth of food if that money had been directed to them rather than this failed missile launch by the North Korean government. There should be special places in hell for these "leaders".

A book that is only a couple of years old is a great read for current day life in North Korea:

Nothing to Envy: Ordinary Lives in North Korea by Barbara Demick
