Republicans have expressed outrage at Obama’s
statement on the Supreme Court on Monday, in which he noted previous
conservative criticisms that “…an unelected group of people would
somehow overturn a duly constituted and passed law,” and expressed
confidence that the court would not “take that step”. Senate Minority leader Mitch McConnell, for
example, said that the President’s remarks demonstrate “…a fundamental lack of respect for our system
of checks and balances." This despite a long history of Republican
complaints about “activist judges”, including some thinly veiled incitements to
violence, as detailed in this post by Jon Perr.
I’m shocked, said the GOP,
But we really can't disagree
That the court he maligns
(He steals our best lines)
Is incented politically.
